CARD LAKE - LAKE ROUTE 2
A gem of a lake in a wilderness setting with easy access.
Where: Off Route 14 between Chester and Windsor.
Skill Level: Beginner
Time: Day or half day trip
Distance: 10 km around lake

This long narrow lake (about 5 km) is surrounded by low rolling hills that are completely forested with no sign of human activity. The shoreline has a gentle slope of flat rocks that make for easy walking and landing. Indeed it looks like it would be possible to walk around the lake with little difficulty. It also has dozens of small sandy beaches with many inviting spots to stop for a picnic.
A small provincial park at the south end has a boat ramp and parking. It is closed at dusk. An impressive stone wall holds the bank by the ramp and there is another at the dam half way down the lake. Ace Hill Island is actually connected to the nearest shore. Here you can see lots of iris, sundews and if you’re quiet perhaps a deer.

Wind - The long, narrow shape of this lake means you will likely be paddling into a headwind either on your way down or your way back depending on the season. Plan for the extra time and energy required.
How to get there
Take Exit 8 off Highway 103 and head north 17 kms on Route 14 toward Windsor. Look for the sign for Card Lake Provincial Park on the left.
Access Point One - Card Lake Provincial Park
Drive past the picnic area to the end of the road and the boat ramp.The park is open from Victoria Day weekend in May until Thanksgiving in October.Agate prevents vehicle entry when the park is closed but use is still permitted and encouraged. For boat owners this will mean a long carry (1km) from the gate to the ramp.
