Description & Services

Information
Earth Adventures is an exciting new website and phone app (earthadventures.ca) that provides easy-to-follow instructions for self-guided activities for families and small youth groups on 30 short trails in some of the most popular and beautiful locales in Halifax and Kings Counties.

It is a free resource with tons of opportunities to help kids have fun and explore in nature. It is meant for kids 5-12 and their parent or youth leaders, who also get to join in. Each adventure provides a series of compelling nature activities related to the creatures, forests and seashores along the way. For example, kids can sneak through Shubie Park as raccoon thieves, discover the secret of the gnomes at Sackville Lakes Park, become rock hounds near Peggy’s Cove and search for Nature Dragons in the Kentville Ravine. Simple and engaging instructions enable parents and youth leaders to lead while participating. Relevant ecological and cultural information in side boxes adds context to each trail, including a specific focus on Mi’kmaw perspectives.

There are print versions for those without phones and the phone app can download information ahead if phones are out of range on a given trail. The project is sponsored by the Department of Community Development at Acadia University and supported by the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage, regional municipalities and Glooscap First Nation.
