Information
Cherry Hill Fun Run is a fun Run/Walk starting in Cherry Hill NS. The 10K event loops through Broad Cove before returning to Cherry Hill
The Cherry Hill Fun Run began twenty two years ago as a way to raise funds for the United Communities fire department in Cherry Hill NS. The race has grown from about 20 people in 1991 to over 240 people in 2012
The 10k race course starts in Cherry Hill, a small fishing village on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, and loops through Broad Cove before returning to Cherry Hill. Some walk. Others run. Walkers start off 30 minutes ahead of those running so the two groups finish about the same time.
The day starts with a group photo taken on or around the fire truck which reminds us of the charity focus of the race.
Participants get a T-shirt designed by local artist. Post race food is chili, buns and dessert made in local kitchens. Fiddler Earl Teal and his group provide music for those who can still step dance after running 10k. Scads of door prizes donated by local businesses mean over half the crowd go home with some sort of gift.
We don't worry too much about who wins the event. Gold. silver and bronze honors are drawn by lot from all the people who have finished the event.
For the pure joy of running it's hard to beat the Cherry Hill Fun Run.
