As part of the New Horizons project, in 2010 Le Village historique acadien de la Novelle-Écosse, in collaboration with the Tri County Local Food Network and the Tri County Women’s Centre, established a community garden on the historic Acadian village site. 
 
The Village had a traditional garden on site but they wanted to establish a community garden where hands-on, cross-generational learning could happen. 
Youth, seniors and community volunteers have worked with the staff at the historic site to establish the community garden and carry out workshops on food preparation and preservation. 
 
The collaboration continues and New Horizons project funding has been used to assist with the expansion of the community garden.
