munofshelbSummer Fun in the Municipality of Shelburne is brought to you by the Recreation and Parks Department.

To register for our programs, please call us at 902-875-3544 ext. 230,

or stop by the summer staff office located in Shelburne at 136 Hammond Street on the 3rd floor.

In an effort to make Day Camps more accessible, staff can be onsite as early as 8 am (if requested) and remain for pick-up until 5 pm. These will be supervised free play times before & after scheduled programming.

Summer Fun Guide

Summer Kick Off: July 2 & 3

Come help us kick off summer at The Islands Park with a barbeque and a huge game of capture the flag! Meet new friends and try out a variety of awesome games at our first camp of the summer.

Time: 9:00am – 4:30pm

Age: 5-12 years

Fee: $16 each or $24 per family

Location: The Islands Park

Kids in the Kitchen: July 6-10

This week long camp will teach children kitchen safety and how to pick healthy choices through fun activities and hands on cooking experience.

Each day the children will cook and enjoy a nutritious meal and will receive a recipe book so they can practice their skills at home.

Time and Age: 9:00am- 12pm (5-7yrs) & 1:00pm-4:30pm (8-12yrs)

Fee: $25 each or $40 family

Location: SRHS (FST lab)

Sport-TASTIC!: July 6-10

Kids will have fun being physically active by playing a variety of different sports such as soccer, basketball, Frisbee bowling, noodle hockey and more!

Time and Age: 9:00am-12pm (8-12yrs) & 1pm-4:30pm (5-7yrs)

Fee: $25 each or $40 family

Location: SRHS (outdoors & gym)

Teddy Bear Picnic: July 15

Kids, come out for a fun time with your favorite stuffed friend (teddy bear, etc.). We’ll be doing lots of games & songs with our Teddy Bear friends. A light lunch will be provided to enjoy picnic-style.

Parent participation is encouraged.

Time: 10:30am 12:30pm

Age: 2-6 (children under 4 must be accompanied by an adult)

Fee: FREE

Location: The Islands Park

Scooter and Skateboard Camp: July 13-17

Learn the basics of skateboard and scooter safety as instructors help you learn the basics or improve your skills. Every session will be packed with lots of skate/scooter instruction as well as a variety of games and activities.

Time: 9:00am – 12:00pm

Age: 7-12

Fee: $35 each or $50 family

Location: Shelburne County Arena

Ground Hockey: July 13-17

ground-hockeyWork on your skills in a fun, safe environment. This camp allows the development of new skills or a chance to show off the skills you already have. Players are encouraged to bring their own sticks. We provide goalie gear.

Age: 7-12yrs

Fee: $25 each or $40 family

Time: 1:00pm – 4:30pm

Location: Shelburne County Arena

Archery Camp July 13-17

Take aim and learn about safety, and how to hit the target using a bow and arrow. Archery equipment is provided if you do not have your own. There is a limit of 20 archers for this program. Come join us for a week of archery and many fun games and activities.

Eco-Explorer: July 13-17

Come and explore nature and learn about sustainability and the environment through fun games, crafts, planting and adventurous nature hikes!

Summer Jam Basketball: July 20-24

Get your morning started by learning the basics of basketball in a non-competitive setting. Each morning will be jam packed with a variety of fun basketball related activities as well as low-organized games.

Time: 9am – 12noon

Age: 5-12

Fee: $25 each or $40 family

Creative Camp: July 20-24

Come touch on your creative side with a number of different crafts, creative activities and games. Enjoy fun activities including tie-dying T-shirts!

Games Galore: July 20-24

A great way to spend your afternoon after Summer Jam Basketball or Creative Camp! Keep the good times rolling as we dedicate the afternoon to playing all types of games, especially outdoors. High energy, low energy, quiet, adventurous and more!

Time: 1pm-4:30pm

Age: 5-12

Fee: $25 each or $40 family

Wet ~n~ Wild: July 27-31

Nothing but fun at this beach camp! We’ll play games, make crafts, swim, canoe, paddle boat and more. We’ll even have a BBQ! Come prepared for a week at the beach.

Age: 5-12yrs

Time: 9:00am – 4:30pm

Fee: $40 each or $60 family ($75 each or $125 family including Red Cross Swim lessons)

Location: Welkum Park, Welshtown

Ultimate Recreation Camp: August 4-7

Come join the fun by participating in a number of awesome activities such as water games, crafts and cool science experiments! We’ll also be trying some archery, indoor curling and a day trip to go swimming!

Time: 9:00am- 4:30pm

Age: 5–12yrs

Fee: $32 each or $48 family

Location: West Green Harbour Hall

Outdoor Adventure: August 4-7

Explore the great outdoors with us at our Outdoor Adventure Camp at The Islands Park. Spend a day outside with us, enjoying a number of outdoor activities and learn basics camping skills that are useful for any outdoor adventure!

Date & Age: August 4-5-Ages 5-7yrs & August 6-7 Ages 8-12yrs

Time: 9:00am-4:30pm

Kayaking Camps: August 17-20

kayak2The Canadian Tire Jumpstart Kayak Instruction Program introduces children and youth ages 10 and up to this physically active and somewhat challenging experience of kayaking.

It is an exciting outdoor recreation water sport.

This program focuses on skills, safety, and fun. 9:00am – 12:00pm (Session 1) 1:00pm – 4:00pm (Session 2) Age: 10 plus Fee: A minimum donation $10.00 to the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Program made upon registration. Location: Welkum Park, Welshtown

Ocean 2 Ocean: August 17-21

Come and learn about the creatures of the ocean and explore the beautiful Sandy Point Lighthouse beach. We’ll collect shells, make crafts and play lots of fun ocean themed games!

Time: 9:00am- 4:30pm

Age: 5-12yrs

Fee: $40 each or $60 family

Location: Sandy Point Lighthouse Community Centre

Last Blast: August 24-28

It’s the last chance to have a blast! We’re taking the best parts of the summer and putting them into one camp. The camp will change locations midway through the week to make sure the fun level is at maximum! Come prepared for outdoor and beach activities.

Other Recreation Opportunities

Welkum Park Family Fun: July 5

Come join us for an afternoon of fun at Welkum Park. Activities will include sand castle building, water relays, parachute games and prizes! There will also be watermelon and lots of water to keep you hydrated.

Age: Everyone Welcome

Fee: FREE

Location: Welkum Park, Welshtown

Transportation is available to and from Welkum Park. A shuttle will leave at 12:30pm from the Municipality Office Building, back parking lot (136 Hammond St) and depart from Welkum Park at 3pm. Limited space available. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Must pre-register to reserve your spots on the shuttle by calling 902-875-3544 ext 230.

Kite Flying & Family Beach Fun: July 26 & August 23

We’ll spend the afternoon flying kites, playing water games, trying out skim boards and enjoying the beach! Bring your own kite. We’ll have several Kite Kits on site (pre-assembled) in case you don’t have one of your own. Oh, and we’ll also have Kite Snacks! Bring the family!

Outdoor Movie: July 23 & August 20

Bring a blanket, chair and some munchies for a fun evenings! Low organized games to be held beforehand to keep the kids busy until sunset when the movie starts. Kayak TRY IT Event: August 15

The Islands Provincial Park (as part of the Kayak Festival).

Kayaks, paddles & PFD’s available for use.

Qualified instructors & Lifeguards will be on site.

Swim to Survive for Children & Adults

Swim to Survive is a free drowning prevention program. This program teaches and evaluates rolling into deep water, water treading and swimming 50m.

Adult Kayaking Clinic: August 18

Learn the basics of kayaking. Kayaks, paddles and lifejackets provided.

Nightime Escapades: August 21

Come out and experience the Islands Park at night. We will be playing games and having fun in the dark! Includes campfire, songs, stories and s’mores!
