Information

Special Olympics Shelburne County has laid roots in our community for over 20 years and continues to remain an active part to date.

Our competition sports menu varies with the seasons. In the summer our athletes enjoy bocce, soccer, track, bowling and basketball. In the winter we offer snow-shoeing, bowling and floor hockey. Shelburne County is grateful for the support and dedication of our coaches who take the time each week to come out and volunteer their time.

Beyond the sport and the enjoyment of the Games is the friendship made through Special Olympics. No place is this more evident then on the bus to and from the Games where you will find lots of laughter and chatting. The dance is a highlight and the meals are a thing to behold.

Our athletes and volunteers participate in numerous community fundraising events....selling raffle tickets, bagging groceries, BBQs, pie auctions and an annual Rock-a-thon/Yard Sale/BBQ in June to help support our Summer Games. This year the SCSO Fundraising Committee solicited 1-2 and 3 year donor contributions from local businesses and community members to help to sustain our programs and events with the assistance of our dedicated volunteers and families.

If you would like to spend some rewarding time and serve your community at the same time, please give Special Olympics a thought. We currently have vacancies on our Regional Executive Committee where volunteers can actively make a difference on a continued basis; as a coach, an assistant or simply lending a hand during fundraisers or other events. Volunteers can be young or old and do not need to have any specific training to join - only the desire to make some very special athletes happy.
