About US
South Shore Work Activity Program (SSWAP) provides programming to participants 18 years of age and older whose personal, physical or social challenges may make it difficult to find or maintain employment. Participants enroll in the program for up to 12 months and work closely with an instructor/counsellor to help them set personal and employment goals.
The Program
The program is divided into four levels each lasting 13 weeks. Each participant develops an individual goal plan that includes personal, educational and employment goals. While in levels one and two instruction is mostly in-house and participants develop the strategies to overcome any challenges that have prevented them from obtaining employment or maintaining employment in the past. At levels three and four participants may continue their in-house instruction and skills development and will also partake in on-the-job training through work placements. The on-the-job training is a strong component of our program and, we have developed many excellent relationships with local businesses several of which have hired participants after a successful work placement.
Components
There are many components to the training offered here at SSWAP. They include Personal Success / Life Skills, Upgrading, Customer Service, Computer Fundamentals, Portfolio, Workplace Literacy, Budgeting, Healthy Living and Career Exploration. The four work exploration areas at SSWAP are: Carpentry /Woodworking (Intro), Janitorial/Environmental Services (intro), Food Services and Reception.
Certifications
Participants receive certifications in FoodSafe, Standard First Aid / CPR and WHMIS
