Description & Services
Information
Harbour House is a transition house serving women and their dependent children who have left situations of intimate partner violence.
There are fifteen beds at the House. Our doors opened in 1987, and we have since that time sheltered hundreds of women and children. A typical stay is six weeks, during which time women receive safe shelter, supportive counseling, appropriate referrals and a compassionate and healing atmosphere.
We also offer a number of other services:
Outreach: Our Outreach Worker is available to women throughout Lunenburg and Queens at nine different locations. This makes it easy to get support where you are.
Support Groups: Support groups offer ex-residents and community members a chance to stay in touch while moving forward with their lives.
Harbour House is also running a program at the Family Support Centre in Bridgewater; It’s Your Life. To learn more about this program, please call us.
School Programs: Our Child and Youth Worker team goes into nine schools in Lunenburg and Queens, presenting one-day and on-going workshops to students from grade primary through high school.
Child and Youth Counseling: The Child and Youth Workers also work with children resident in the House, and their mothers, to encourage and support parenting skills. They also meet with community clients who would like support for parenting.
