Information

The Yarmouth Town and County Sports Hall of Fame was founded in February of 1997 by six Yarmouth locals interested in preserving the history and heritage of sports within the area. Since that time, the museum has thrived and expanded, and has finally found a permanent home at 435 Main Street.

Since March of 1998, the Sports Hall of Fame has held Induction Dinners that honour athletes, builders, and special category recipients of the Yarmouth area. This is a popular event for the association, and each honouree receives a plaque that is placed on the Hall of Fame wall at the museum, along with a picture and write-up of his/her accomplishments.

Along with the Hall of Fame inductees, the museum has many pictures, trophies, and artifacts that have been donated from people throughout the community to support the preservation of sports heritage.

Each year, a sports calendar is designed and printed featuring local sports teams and athletes, and these are sold as a fundraiser for the museum. Calendars go on sale in August at the Hall of Fame site and will continue to be sold throughout the year.

In July of 2008, the Hall of Fame held its first annual Main Street Mile, a one mile race down Main Street. This is another fundraiser that has been implemented. The 2016 Main Street Mile Registration is available now.

Exhibits and displays are always changing at the Hall of Fame, so stop by and explore Yarmouth’s sports heritage!
